I'm a leading psychotherapist and the first person to achieve a British degree in hypnotherapy.
I've been a psychotherapist for 27 years and worked specifically with sufferers of IBS for 18 years. Nearly all my patients are referred by gastroenterologists. I also practise general psychotherapy.
I'm recognised as a national authority on IBS and, crucially, stress reduction approaches to its symptoms. I've:
- Served on the Governing Council of the National Register of Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists.
- Presented a nationwide, lottery-funded series of courses on how to help IBS sufferers reduce and manage their symptoms.
- Delivered a keynote address to the annual conference of The Gut Trust (the UK's national support organisation for IBS sufferers).
- Acted as a policy advisor for four years to the 30,000-strong British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
- Worked as a senior college lecturer in counselling.
But perhaps my most important qualification is the fact that I used to suffer from IBS. I know how difficult it can be to live with – but I also know that it needn't be that way forever.
As a result of my work with IBS sufferers I developed the successful IBS self help package that has been changing lives with its stress management approach to IBS. I also hold regular one-to one sessions with IBS sufferers.
