Background to the IBS Treatment Programme developed by Adrian Blake
Adrian Blake is one of the UK’s leading authorities on psychological approaches to IBS. The author of numerous articles in professional journals, he set up the IBS Treatment Programme in 1994 and has since worked with hundreds of IBS sufferers from all over the UK. He now sees people privately at both his Bromley and Norfolk practices. He has the unique distinction of being the first person to achieve a British degree in hypnotherapy. This, in the late 1980s, proved a milestone in the recognition of hypnotherapy as an aid in the treatment of various medical conditions.
A graduate of London University, he is a former policy advisor to the 26,000-member British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and has served on the Governing Council of the National Register of Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists.
In the late 1990s he played a leading part in presenting a nationwide series of courses - funded by the UK’s Lotteries Commission - to help IBS sufferers manage and reduce their symptoms. Subsequently he gave a keynote address to the annual conference of the IBS Network - the UK’s national support organisation for IBS sufferers.
Adrian is a former senior lecturer in counselling at a large UK college. He is himself an ex-IBS sufferer.
