Irritable bowel syndrome is a topic that's often shied away from, both in everyday conversation and in the media. But there has been a wealth of research into IBS over the years and how best to treat it.
The main approach used in my self help package and individual sessions (gut directed hypnotherapy), has consistently been found to:
- Achieve positive results for around 70-80% of people.
- Provide lasting relief, not just a temporary boost.
- Lead to a dramatic improvement in a general sense of well-being.
Here are just a few examples of conclusions reached by researchers on gut directed hypnotherapy:
Digestive Diseases & Research Journal: “all central IBS symptoms improved substantially after treatment”. (Hypnosis Treatment for Severe IBS, Nov 2002).
Gut Journal: “results indicate that for most patients the benefits from hypnotherapy last at least five years”. (Long-term Benefits of Hypnotherapy for IBS, Nov 2003).
Journal of Clinical Nursing: “gut-directed hypnotherapy has a very positive impact on health-related quality of life with improvements in psychological well-being and physical symptoms”. (Effect of Nurse-led Gut Directed Hypnotherapy Upon Health-related Quality of Life in Patients with IBS, June 2006).
In a recent Daily Mail article, gastroenterologist Dr Nick Read made this assessment of my gut-directed hypnotherapy approach:
“The combination of identifying stress factors and applying hypnotherapy as a means of relaxing the body and reducing the impact of stress will be of help to many”.
